Phantom Flex 4K, now available at Stereovision

The Phantom Flex4K is a full-featured digital cinema camera, capable of speeds that range from standard frame rates to over 1,000 frames-per-second (fps) at 4K and up to 2,000 fps at 2K pixel resolution. Building upon the award winning technology of Phantom digital cinema products, the Flex4K combines features found in the latest cinema cameras with those found only in specialty cameras.

With the planned option to record either uncompressed raw or with industry-standard compression, the workflow will be just as flexible as the camera’s frame rate. The latest in non-volatile storage technology is used to move data quickly, while a complete on-camera control menu eliminates the need for a computer on set.

Apple ProRes 422 HQ encoding and audio recording will be available this summer via a firmware upgrade. The ProRes 422 HQ option provides an alternative to the typical cine raw workflow. It works at the camera’s full 4K resolution and up to the top frame rates (938 fps at 4096 x 2304 resolution). The audio feature is intended for use as scratch-sound for sync sound recording on a production where the Flex4K may be used for both high speed and standard speed recording. However, the camera is capable of recording audio at all frame rates above 23.976. More details about these new features will be available soon, as we get closer to their release.

The GoPro Hero+ LCD is here!

Say hello to the GoPro Hero+ LCD! All-in-one awesome + touch display convenience.

The basics of the camera are solid. The Hero+ LCD records video in 1080p60, and takes 8 MP resolution stills, both recorded on a microSD card (up to 64 GB). Because it was designed for use during action sports like surfing and skiing, the camera is both rugged and waterproof. Video recording can be started with a single button press (a great feature for those pressed for time to catch a shot), and a HiLight Tagging button allows you to flag certain moments in a video as you record them so you can easily find those moments later during playback.

That’s all well and good, of course, but the show stopping feature here is the LCD screen – a first for GoPro’s entry-level Hero camera. It allows you to access camera settings, frame your shots and watch video playback, all from the camera itself. There’s an new in-camera video trimming feature for tidying up your clips on the spot, too – handy for when you want to share short videos via the camera’s built-in Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connections.

The GoPro Hero+ LCD is recently launched and will be available in India around the first week of July 2015 at all authorised GoPro dealers nationwide. For more information log on to www.stereovision.biz and www.gopro.com.

Phantom Flex Underwater: first time EVER in India… by Stereovision

You heard well! The first underwater shoot with a Phantom camera in India diving in for the film “Roy” starring Jacqueline Fernandes, Rambir Kapoor and Arjun Rampal produced by T-Series. We are proud to have accomplished this challenging mission with a Phantom Flex 2K and a Hydroflex Remote AquaCam Housing, both available at Stereovision’s rental catalogue.

After leading the industry in India with film camera housings also made by Hydroflex (the best) for over a decade, its no surprise. It was time to move Digital!

Above, the underwater cinematographer with its professional crew provided by Orca Dive Club Mumbai, so as a set of underwater kino lights, also provided by Stereovision. Although “kinos” do have limitations when shooting high-speed due to flicker issues, we managed to overlap the flicker with other tungsten sources from above the water (+5KW tungsten). Also the flicker is less visible underwater due to water density and the natural motion of it.

Inside the housing all cabling and motors must be precisely calibrated to operate the focus and the aperture remotely via the Preston Remote Lens Control System. That was only achieved by the underwater application specialist Rajasekaran (right), together with Anand.

The Hydroflex Remote Aquacam MK5 is available in India and Sri Lanka and it works for Red Epic & Dragon, Arri Alexa, Phantom 2K and 4K.
